It is truly strange and fascinating to think that future generations will very likely take for granted the incredible technological innovations being invented and implemented in this day and age. After all, this has generally always been the case.
Some of these new technologies, however, are so ground-breaking, world-changing, and yet full of untapped potential, it could very well be that people will still be incomplete awe for many generations to come.
1. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
AI is relatively old as a term and concept now, even if it has only relatively recently been making headlines. Today it has become developed to a point where it has become a rather generalized term, used to label many types of processes in software and code that operate and perform tasks autonomously, or else imitate human beings in some manner. There is a general discrepancy, though, over just how far AI has come in terms of achieving “true intelligence”, or actual human or sentient-like qualities.
Scientists, engineers, and developers have therefore coined a different term, one more suited to denote the practical application of AI in modern machinery and industry, which is “machine learning”.
Together, AI, machine learning, and general automation are quickly changing the shape of things come, and analysts predict they will create a large number of new specializations and jobs in the coming future. As many old occupations and sectors of industry will become steadily more redundant.
2. Robotic Process Automation
Like AI and machine learning, RPA, or Robotic Process Automation, will likely make and has already made to some extent, many old jobs redundant. It is a general term for software that automates the functions and processes of various industries, companies, and businesses.
RPA is predicted to directly affect the livelihood of over 230 million people worldwide in the near future. However, nearly 60% percent of current RPA is only partially automated, and several new jobs and specializations will also arise from it.
3. Edge Computing
Even as much as cloud computing has changed the nature of online business and function in recent years, it is, however, nevertheless already making way for an even more efficient and versatile online technology, called Edge computing.
Though it works somewhat differently, Edge computing, after all, is specifically designed as an improvement and replacement for cloud computing. It will help to solve, or simply bypass, many of the issues currently affecting cloud computing, such as latency, and potentially give even the most remote places on earth online connectivity.
4. Quantum Computing
Involving phenomena such as “superposition” and “quantum entanglement”, quantum computing, over the past decades, has gone from being an almost sci-fi-like fantasy, in the public eye at least, to a functional, and well-utilized, technology. Much like how Black Lotus casino is now the expected standard for online gaming sites, we’ve come to accept that quantum computing is the norm in some sectors. It performs at speeds, and with inner workings, far too great for the general public to fully appreciate or understand, and is now being utilized for a number of highly important tasks and processes.
Generally though, anything too complicated, or simply lengthy, for ordinary computers to attempt, quantum computers are able to deal with in a cinch.
